That heaviness
of heart
that weighs upon your gaiety
tugs upon the strings in mine.

coddling, wielding its influence
weakened, mine yield.

The knife
of betrayal
that plunges deep into your gentleness
turns upon me.

its reflection on me, it identifies its next target
and stabs just as sharply.

the cruelty
of unspoken anger and silent harshness
that set your hopes on flight, away,
ties me to the chase.

With a shake of my hand and a hug
you bid farewell and go
leaving behind only liquid crystals
that fell from your eyes
and its bitterness remnant in me
as i swallow mine.

what i won't say when you are here
you will see spoken, louder, if you just look back.

hiding from this bitterness,
you can run
bonded to you,
i will follow.
